Estatua de exposición de Astro Boy Tetsuwan Atom de ATS, figura de resina FRP con licencia de Tezuka Productions, 50 cm

Few characters embody the birth of Japanese anime like Astro Boy, Osamu Tezuka's mechanical child hero. This approximately 50 cm ATS statue, made under official Tezuka Productions license in hand-painted resin and FRP, sits between hobby figure and museum-scale display, a centerpiece for an anime room or gallery.

The Piece

Astro Boy first appeared in 1952, and the 1963 television adaptation made him the centerpiece of one of the world's first televised anime series. That adaptation changed animation production by introducing limited animation, cost-efficient episode production and serialized storytelling, the techniques that allowed anime to become a scalable industry; later franchises such as Gundam, Evangelion and Pokémon trace their television production lineage back to Tezuka's innovations.

ATS produced licensed statues under official approval from Tezuka Productions, giving them standing in the collector market. These statues occupy a middle tier between small hobby figures and museum-scale statues, and were often produced in limited batches for hobby stores, exhibition displays, promotional retail environments and private collectors. Typical traits are fiberglass or resin construction, hand-painted surfaces and durable indoor display scale. Because many were used in stores, surviving examples are often heavily worn, and pieces in good condition are becoming increasingly scarce.

The design is deceptively simple yet instantly recognizable: the spiked hair silhouette, black trunks with green belt, red rocket boots and wide expressive eyes, merging cartoon innocence with futuristic technology. The character carries Tezuka's themes of humanity and robotics, empathy and artificial life, and the moral responsibility of technology, one reason Astro Boy remains a global icon decades after his creation.

The statue speaks to anime historians, to collectors of Tezuka's wider work, including Kimba the White Lion, Black Jack and Phoenix, and to collectors of large display statues for anime rooms, galleries and retail displays, where pieces of this scale often become the centerpiece.
