Vintage Japan Eagle & Pine Sukajan, Yokoburi Embroidery, Navy and Ivory Satin Souvenir Jacket, Size L

An eagle descends through evergreen pine beneath the embroidered word Japan on this old-school navy-and-ivory souvenir jacket. Visibly aged and well worn, it has the time-softened surface and expressive, animated stitching of a genuinely used vintage sukajan rather than the polished finish of a modern reproduction.

The Piece

This vintage Japanese sukajan pairs a deep navy satin-finish body with contrasting ivory raglan sleeves. The back shows a large eagle with wings fully extended, talons lowered and beak open, descending through clusters of pine beneath the word Japan in silver-gray script. The bird is worked in cream, white, orange and golden-yellow thread against the dark ground, while pine needles in several shades of green add depth and contrast.

Two smaller opposing eagles decorate the chest, each surrounded by curling cloud-like lines, giving a balanced old-school composition with real movement. The directional satin stitching through feathers, pine needles and sweeping outlines has the animated character associated with yokoburi-style Japanese souvenir-jacket embroidery, and the asymmetrical wear and loose threads lend these motifs a raw, expressive quality.

The eagle's sharp movement set against the enduring form of evergreen pine makes a commanding image of vigilance, resilience and untamed energy.
