INTRODUCTION

An exceptional large-format expression of Dior's early-2000s design language, this vintage Double Saddle handbag combines the House's iconic Trotter monogram canvas with sculptural saddle-inspired architecture and warm leather trim.

Finished in an unusual green-and-beige palette, the bag transforms Dior's famous equestrian vocabulary into a broad 40 cm top-handle silhouette with unmistakable Y2K presence.

Rather than shrinking the Saddle concept into a compact accessory, this design expands it.

The result is a bag with genuine architectural drama.

DESIGN

The silhouette is built around two opposing curved Saddle forms.

Tan leather piping outlines each section and creates strong visual separation against the densely patterned monogram canvas.

At the center, a large gold-tone D element anchors the composition.

The contrast between:

soft canvas

structured leather

rounded saddle curves

gold-tone hardware

and the symmetrical dome-like body

gives the piece a distinctly sculptural quality.

COLOR & MATERIAL

The green-and-beige Trotter canvas is one of the most appealing aspects of this example.

The muted green reads almost khaki in certain lighting, while the beige Dior monogram provides a softer contrast than the more familiar navy Oblique palette.

Warm natural leather trim adds another tonal layer.

With age, the leather has developed visible wear and patina, reinforcing the authentic vintage character of the piece.

SCALE

At approximately:

40 cm wide

25 cm high

12 cm deep

the bag has substantial physical presence.

It feels far more like a full-size day bag than a conventional Saddle accessory.

That makes it especially attractive for collectors who enjoy Dior's archival silhouettes but want something more functional and dramatic.

STORAGE

The Double Saddle is surprisingly organized.

The dual-zip main compartment is supported by:

two exterior hook-and-loop pockets

one exterior magnetic pocket

two interior open pockets

one interior zipper pocket

two interior snap-button pockets

This complexity gives the bag a strong utilitarian counterpoint to its theatrical exterior design.

CONDITION

This is a genuine vintage piece with visible use.

The Japanese source assigns Condition Rank B.

Noted wear includes:

staining to the exterior

shape softening

scuffs and wear to leather sections

wear to the base

scuffs, fraying and cracking on the handles

scratches, oxidation and discoloration to hardware

discoloration beneath the flap area

dirt around the opening and pull tab

These characteristics should be considered part of the bag's pre-owned vintage condition.

The bag remains structurally usable, but this example is best suited to a buyer who appreciates original archival pieces with visible history rather than pristine collector storage condition.

ARCHIVAL APPEAL

The Double Saddle represents a particularly expressive chapter in Dior's design history.

Its oversized proportions, prominent monogram, exaggerated curves and equestrian references capture the bold spirit associated with early-2000s Dior.

That period has become increasingly relevant to collectors interested in:

Y2K fashion

Galliano-era Dior

archival luxury

logo-era design

vintage monogram

Saddle bags

editorial fashion pieces

The design is instantly recognizable but considerably less common than the standard Saddle.

Christian Dior Vintage Trotter Double Saddle Bag Green Beige 40cm

A striking large-format vintage Dior handbag combining the House's iconic Trotter monogram canvas with sculptural Double Saddle construction.

Rendered in an unusual green-and-beige palette with warm leather trim and gold-tone hardware, the bag reflects the bold, theatrical luxury associated with Dior's early-2000s design era.

The silhouette expands the classic Saddle vocabulary into a substantial 40 cm top-handle format, with two opposing curved panels creating a dramatic symmetrical structure.

A large central D detail provides the focal point, while tan leather piping traces the contours of the bag and contrasts beautifully with the muted green monogram canvas.

The bag measures approximately 40 × 25 × 12 cm and features a double-zip closure, multiple exterior and interior pockets, and compact top handles.

The Japanese source grades the piece Condition B.

Visible vintage wear includes exterior staining, shape softening, leather scuffs, wear to the base, cracking and fraying at the handles, hardware scratches and oxidation, and additional age-related discoloration.

A key and padlock are included.

For collectors of Dior's archival design language, Y2K fashion and statement monogram pieces, this large Double Saddle offers a distinctive and increasingly uncommon interpretation of one of the House's most recognizable forms.

On Heritage, Craft & Couture Architecture

Christian Dior is rooted in the architecture of dress.

When the House of Dior emerged in Paris in 1946, its identity quickly became inseparable from sculpted proportion, controlled volume, precise tailoring, and the dramatic redefinition of the feminine silhouette associated with the celebrated New Look.

The maison’s vocabulary has since expanded across haute couture, leather goods, embroidery, jewelry, footwear, and accessories while retaining a fundamental concern with structure, balance, and atelier execution.

At Japonista, Dior works are evaluated as constructed fashion objects in which silhouette, textile, hardware, stitching, reinforcement, lining, and proportion function together.

Cannage quilting, Oblique jacquard, structured handles, curved leather panels, embroidered surfaces, metallic charms, and tailoring details are examined not merely as decorative signatures but as evidence of production period, workshop technique, and design lineage.

Natural aging, including gentle leather softening, subtle patina, minor quilting relaxation, hardware wear, textile settling, or light handle darkening, is documented as part of the material lifecycle when structural integrity and original character remain intact.

Attribution, Rarity & Condition Integrity

Certain Dior works may correspond to identifiable runway collections, creative-director periods, boutique-exclusive releases, seasonal colorways, discontinued silhouettes, special embroidery programs, limited textile treatments, or historically significant house designs.

Era attribution may be supported by interior markings, date codes, construction methods, hardware characteristics, textile patterns, label typography, collection references, archival photography, and other observable evidence appropriate to the object and production period.

Restorations, if present, are disclosed transparently.

This may include professional leather conditioning, recoloring, edge refinishing, hardware replacement, lining intervention, handle repair, textile stabilization, embroidery conservation, or other restorative work where observable or documented.

Collectors may request further clarification regarding approximate production era, collection attribution, material identification, hardware configuration, construction details, or condition prior to acquisition.

Inquiries, Availability, and Private Consideration

Vintage and rare modern Dior works may include archival runway garments, couture-influenced tailoring, Lady Dior variations, Saddle silhouettes, Dior Oblique pieces, boutique-limited releases, seasonal embroidery, discontinued handbag constructions, costume jewelry, footwear, and collector-grade accessories.

Certain works may represent significant periods under different artistic directors or correspond to designs that were produced only briefly before being altered, discontinued, or reinterpreted.

Restorations, when present, are disclosed transparently. Replacement hardware, professionally recolored leather, renewed glazing, repaired handles, re-lined interiors, textile repairs, embroidery stabilization, or conditioning interventions are documented where observable.

“Rare” classification reflects documented scarcity, limited production, discontinued design, unusual material or color combination, significant collection association, historic creative period, or demonstrable market infrequency rather than speculative terminology.

Collectors are encouraged to request additional clarification regarding production period, collection history, construction characteristics, condition mapping, or preservation considerations prior to acquisition.

Provenance, Documentation & International Considerations

Luxury garments, handbags, accessories, footwear, and jewelry are presented as collector-grade fashion archives and are not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Christian Dior Couture or the originating maison.

Authentication observations are based on the construction, markings, materials, hardware, textile characteristics, date codes, documentation, archival references, and other attributes available for examination at the time of assessment.

Buyers are responsible for reviewing international import duties, customs classifications, restricted-material regulations, and exotic-material requirements where applicable prior to purchase.

Certain vintage Dior works may incorporate exotic leather, fur, shell, feathers, precious materials, or other components subject to international wildlife, customs, or controlled-material regulations depending upon age, composition, and destination.

Japonista does not facilitate transactions in violation of applicable law and may require additional documentation, destination review, or shipping restrictions for regulated materials.

All provenance and attribution details provided reflect inspection-based assessment, available documentation, archival reference material, and observable construction characteristics at the time of listing.

A Closing Note

Christian Dior represents couture as architecture: silhouette shaped through proportion, structure, textile, and disciplined atelier execution.

Its enduring works carry the maison’s language through sculpted tailoring, Cannage geometry, Oblique pattern, embroidery, controlled volume, and the tension between softness and form.

A Dior object is therefore read not only through its logo or surface decoration, but through the curve of a panel, the construction of a handle, the density of a jacquard, the rhythm of stitching, the weight of hardware, and the precision with which the entire composition holds together.

These works are preserved as material records of couture history, changing creative direction, atelier craftsmanship, and the evolving visual language of the House of Dior.

We steward them with institutional precision.
