The Piece
This reversible sukajan brings together Yokosuka souvenir-jacket culture, ukiyo-e warrior imagery and the aesthetics of classical Japanese painting. The green-and-ivory side carries a large-scale dragon composition inspired by the dramatic movement and expressive brushwork of traditional Nihonga and by the powerful fantasy creatures of Japanese masters such as Soga Shōhaku. Its bold facial expression, flowing whiskers and dynamic composition give the feeling of a hand-painted Nihonga work translated onto a fashion canvas.
The dragon, a legendary creature of Japanese and East Asian mythology, stands for strength and protection, wisdom and spiritual power, transformation and fortune.
