This is not a generic tin gun.
It is a pre-war Japanese wheeled field cannon, a distinct artillery sub-category that sits above handheld weapons and below armored vehicles in hierarchy — but often mispriced due to safety/function disclaimers.

Field Cannon Artillery Toy
Japan, pre-war period (circa late 1920s–1930s)
Painted tin, spring-assisted mechanism, wheeled carriage
This pre-war Japanese tin field cannon represents a rare artillery-type toy distinct from handheld weapons or novelty launchers. Mounted on a wheeled carriage with a long barrel and stabilizing trail, the form closely mirrors real artillery silhouettes of the early twentieth century, reflecting both military observation and industrial craftsmanship.
The cannon incorporates a spring-assisted firing mechanism originally designed to propel a small projectile, though such components are almost universally lost or disabled in surviving examples. Importantly, the spring remains present, and the core structure — barrel, carriage, wheels, and trail — survives intact.
Artillery toys were produced in significantly smaller numbers than vehicles or soldiers due to their complexity and perceived severity. As a result, they exhibit high attrition rates, particularly in functional components. Today, they are valued primarily as display and reference objects, representing the intersection of industrial design, military iconography, and early tin craftsmanship.
This example shows extensive period wear, oxidation, and paint loss consistent with genuine pre-war use. It should be appreciated as an authentic survivor rather than a functional plaything.
