The Piece
This modern revival sukajan translates classic Yokosuka jumper aesthetics into a more elegant register. The large back embroidery is the centerpiece: a golden tiger sits among waves and natural scenery with Mount Fuji-inspired landscape imagery and flowing wave patterns, beneath elegant script-style “Japan” embroidery, all on a soft pink satin ground. On the front, matching twin tiger chest embroideries complete the classic sukajan symmetry.
In Japanese art the tiger (虎, tora) stands for courage, strength, protection against evil spirits and power balanced with wisdom; tattoo artists often set it among clouds and waves to express harmony between human strength and nature. Mount Fuji (富士山) brings beauty, endurance and spiritual significance, and sakura (桜) the fleeting beauty of life and the turn of the seasons.
