The Piece

The Alma BB begins with a familiar architectural silhouette: curved dome construction, double-zip opening, structured base and paired rolled handles. Kusama then enters the composition. Irregular black Infinity Dots spread across an electric yellow field of textured Epi leather, large and small circles moving without a conventional repeating grid, so that the surface reads as rhythm rather than mechanical repetition. The dots do not conceal the bag's structure; they energize it.

Louis Vuitton's renewed collaboration with Kusama brought the artist's visual universe into the Maison's leather goods, accessories, footwear and ready-to-wear, and the dot sits at the center of her language. On Epi leather the effect gains physical depth: the pronounced horizontal grain catches light in fine linear ridges, the dots interrupt those lines, and the bag takes on an almost graphic-object quality that a flat printed surface could not achieve.

The palette is uncompromising: a brilliant, saturated jaune yellow, crisp black dots and silver-tone hardware that keeps the warmth in check and gives a clean contemporary finish. A miniature pumpkin charm in the same yellow-and-black language accompanies the bag, a second direct link to the artist's vocabulary that works as both accessory and small sculptural detail.

At approximately 24 cm wide, the BB proportion compresses the Alma's heritage into an everyday scale, holding a smartphone, compact wallet, keys and personal accessories, with an open interior pocket for smaller essentials. Twin handles allow hand carry and the detachable shoulder strap gives a hands-free option. Against black, white, charcoal, navy, denim or neutral tailoring the yellow operates almost as a single block of color; black reinforces the dots, white heightens the yellow and denim softens the whole.

The design draws its tension from opposing systems. The Alma is controlled, with a symmetrical dome, paired handles, rigid base and disciplined Epi lines; the dots expand, contract, cluster and separate. The bag never loses its Alma identity, yet it no longer behaves like an ordinary Alma: the yellow field, black dots and pumpkin identify Kusama, the curved dome and twin handles identify Louis Vuitton, and neither signature disappears.
