A highly collectible Louis Vuitton x Jeff Koons Speedy 30 from the 2017 Masters Collection, transforming Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa into one of the House’s most memorable limited-edition art bags.

Model M43372 combines the iconic portrait with dimensional metallic DA VINCI lettering, reflective Louis Vuitton Monogram motifs and vivid coral-pink leather trim.

This exceptionally well-preserved example is presented in near-unused condition and includes its Louis Vuitton dust bag and collaboration charm.

INTRODUCTION

Few handbags are identifiable simultaneously by the fashion house, the contemporary artist and one of the most famous paintings in history.

This one is.

Created for Louis Vuitton’s celebrated collaboration with Jeff Koons, the M43372 Speedy 30 places Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa across the entire body of Louis Vuitton’s classic Speedy silhouette.

The portrait is then deliberately interrupted by oversized metallic DA VINCI lettering, reflective Louis Vuitton motifs and vivid coral-pink leather details.

The result is neither a conventional reproduction nor an ordinary monogram bag.

It is a portable collision of Renaissance art, contemporary appropriation and French luxury design.

THE MASTERS COLLECTION

Louis Vuitton introduced the Masters Collection with American artist Jeff Koons in 2017.

For the project, celebrated works from art history were transferred onto some of Louis Vuitton’s most recognizable silhouettes and reinterpreted through Koons’ distinctive visual language.

The Mona Lisa became one of the defining images of the collection.

Rather than allowing the historical painting to remain untouched, the Masters design overlays the artwork with the artist’s surname in large metallic letters, Louis Vuitton Monogram symbols and brightly colored leather components.

The M43372 is the Mona Lisa Speedy 30 from this collaboration.

LEONARDO DA VINCI AND THE MONA LISA

Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa forms the visual foundation of the bag.

Her portrait occupies the broad front and rear surfaces, allowing the original painting’s muted greens, browns and flesh tones to flow across the curved Speedy construction.

Because the image wraps around a three-dimensional object, the painting changes depending on the viewing angle.

The artwork becomes something carried, handled and viewed in motion rather than encountered only as a flat image.

JEFF KOONS DESIGN LANGUAGE

Across the Mona Lisa appears the enormous metallic inscription:

DA VINCI

The treatment is deliberately bold.

Instead of behaving like a traditional discreet luxury logo, the artist’s name becomes a sculptural design element placed directly over the historical portrait.

Metallic Louis Vuitton Monogram flowers and LV initials are distributed across the surface, creating another layer of imagery between da Vinci’s painting and the physical bag.

This combination is central to the visual identity of the Masters Collection.

DESIGN

The classic Speedy silhouette is transformed through a dramatic mixture of fine-art imagery and saturated contemporary color.

The Mona Lisa reproduction covers the main body.

Coral-pink leather handles, piping, zipper pulls and side panels frame the painting.

Reflective metallic motifs punctuate the darker artwork.

The bright leather trim provides an intentional contrast to the muted Renaissance palette and makes the bag unmistakably contemporary.

FRONT AND REAR ARTWORK

The portrait is not confined to a small decorative insert.

The artwork occupies nearly the entire body of the bag.

This allows the Mona Lisa to remain the dominant visual feature while Louis Vuitton and Koons additions sit directly over the original image.

The front-facing composition is especially dramatic because the metallic DA VINCI lettering crosses the portrait horizontally.

LEATHER TRIM

The coral-pink leather trim is one of the strongest identifying features of this model.

It appears across:

Top handles

Handle mounts

Piping

Side panels

Zipper pulls

Additional leather detailing

The saturated tone brings warmth to the otherwise subdued palette of the Mona Lisa reproduction.

INTERIOR

The interior continues the vivid color story with a richly colored lining and practical organization.

Interior storage includes:

2 open pockets

The zip-top Speedy construction opens broadly for easy access to the main compartment.

The generous central space makes the bag functional despite its collector-oriented design.

HARDWARE

Metallic hardware complements the dimensional DA VINCI lettering and reflective Louis Vuitton motifs.

The hardware creates a deliberate visual bridge between the classical painting beneath and the contemporary luxury treatment placed over it.

CHARM

The included collaboration charm is an important component of the Masters presentation.

For collector examples, retaining original collaboration-specific accessories adds significantly to the completeness and desirability of the piece.

This example includes the charm together with its Louis Vuitton dust bag.

COLOR PALETTE

Olive Green

Muted Brown

Portrait Flesh Tones

Black

Coral Pink

Metallic Silver / Gunmetal

Reflective Monogram Accents

The restrained colors of the original painting are deliberately disrupted by the bright coral leather trim and reflective metallic elements.

COLLECTIBILITY

The M43372 combines several highly recognizable collector categories in one object:

Louis Vuitton

Jeff Koons

Leonardo da Vinci

Mona Lisa

Masters Collection

Speedy 30

2017 limited artist collaboration

Unlike a standard seasonal colorway, this model is inseparable from a specific artwork and a specific creative project.

That gives it lasting identity within Louis Vuitton’s modern collaborative archive.

WHY THE SPEEDY FORMAT MATTERS

The Speedy is one of Louis Vuitton’s most recognizable handbag silhouettes.

Using such an established form for the Masters Collection creates an especially strong contrast.

The underlying object is familiar.

The surface treatment is anything but.

The classical handbag becomes a canvas for one of the most famous portraits ever painted.

ART & FASHION SIGNIFICANCE

Three different creative languages occupy the same object.

Leonardo da Vinci contributes the Renaissance portrait.

Jeff Koons introduces contemporary appropriation and monumental typography.

Louis Vuitton contributes the Speedy architecture, craftsmanship and Monogram iconography.

None disappears completely into the others.

That visual friction is exactly what gives the Masters pieces their distinctive character.

STYLING

Despite the complexity of the artwork, this Speedy can be highly effective against restrained clothing.

Particularly strong combinations include:

Black tailoring

White shirts

Cream knitwear

Olive

Khaki

Dark denim

Minimal dresses

Neutral coats

Monochrome outfits

Because the bag itself carries so much imagery and color, it works especially well as the dominant statement piece.

WHY IT IS SPECIAL

This is not simply a Louis Vuitton bag decorated with artwork.

Its identity depends on the entire combination:

The Mona Lisa

The Speedy 30 silhouette

Jeff Koons’ intervention

Metallic DA VINCI typography

Reflective Louis Vuitton motifs

Coral-pink leather framing

That mixture makes M43372 immediately recognizable to collectors familiar with the Masters Collection.

On Heritage, Craft & Structured Permanence

Louis Vuitton originates in trunk construction—discipline of canvas, reinforced corners, and travel durability. Modern garments and accessories carry this structural logic forward.

At Japonista, LV works are evaluated as engineered luxury systems. Canvas resilience, leather oxidation, stitching precision, and hardware patina are examined as chronological evidence rather than surface ornament.

Natural aging—subtle vachetta darkening, canvas softening—is documented as part of material lifecycle when integrity remains intact.

Attribution, Rarity & Condition Integrity

Certain LV works correspond to artist collaborations, runway capsules, or discontinued silhouettes.

Restorations, if present, are disclosed transparently.

Collectors may request production-year clarification prior to acquisition.

Inquiries, Availability, and Private Consideration

Vintage and rare modern luxury works may include archival runway pieces, boutique-limited releases, discontinued silhouettes, or early-production constructions no longer replicated by the maison.

Restorations, when present, are disclosed transparently. Replacement hardware, re-lined interiors, or minor leather conditioning interventions are documented where observable.

“Rare” classification reflects documented scarcity, design discontinuation, or limited distribution—not speculative language.

Collectors are encouraged to request further clarification regarding era attribution, run history, or condition mapping prior to acquisition.
