Daniel Buren did not decorate the Capucines; he re-engineered it. For ArtyCapucines Chapter 4 in 2022, a striped black-and-white semicircular handle continues visually into the yellow Taurillon body to complete a circle. Buren's design came in four colors of only 50 each, and this rank A yellow example retains its box, dust bag and booklet.

The Piece

Daniel Buren, the French conceptual artist known for regular vertical stripes and site-specific interventions, explained his design through the emergence of two fundamental shapes, a trapezoid and a circle. The handle is an exact semicircle, visually completed by a corresponding curved element in the body, and the flap is redrawn as a sweeping semicircle; this optical doubling required bespoke changes to the normal Capucines construction. Buren credited the result to the craftspeople able to interpret his requests, and the same striped vocabulary anchored his Observatory of Light installation at the Fondation Louis Vuitton.

Louis Vuitton launched ArtyCapucines in 2019, inviting major contemporary artists to reinterpret the Capucines; the 2022 fourth chapter brought together Daniel Buren, Kennedy Yanko, Park Seo-Bo, Amélie Bertrand, Peter Marino and Ugo Rondinone. Buren's project comprised 200 bags divided across four colorways, so each color, this yellow included, was limited to 50 examples worldwide.

The body is richly grained, matte Taurillon leather in a saturated yellow that acts like a painted field, against which the alternating black and white handle reads with great precision. The LV Initials are tonal and restrained, stepping back so the striped circle becomes the bag's identity, and the design was developed around symmetrical halves and contrasting treatments, so each side offers a different view. The leather interior has one open pocket. Few handbags look more convincing on a pedestal.
