Louis Vuitton Bum Bag M95347 in Blue Monogram Denim, Natural Cowhide, Gold-Tone Push-Lock, 2007

A Marc Jacobs-era experiment in which Louis Vuitton let denim remain denim: washed blue Monogram, warm cowhide, contrast stitching and a small gold push-lock. Dated 2007 and graded SA inside and out, this example comes with its box, storage bag and booklets, an unusually complete archival presentation.

The Piece

The M95347 captures one of the most distinctive material experiments of the Marc Jacobs era, translating the historic Monogram into washed blue denim and combining it with natural cowhide, contrast yellow stitching and polished gold-tone hardware. It joins the compact dimensions of a belt bag with the organization and presence of a small shoulder bag: a rectangular body softened by rounded edges, a projecting front flap pocket, a zip main compartment with two interior pockets, and an integrated, adjustable denim belt.

Rather than printing the LV initials and flowers onto a coated surface, the denim treatment gives the motifs a softer, woven appearance; initials, diamond flowers, rounded florals and quatrefoils appear in lighter tones against the blue, with the textile grain visible beneath. The color is not a flat navy but washed indigo, lighter and deeper tones moving across the surface, especially around seams and stitched edges. Natural cowhide at the key reinforcement points adds a warm counterpoint and, reacting to light, humidity and handling, may gently honey over time.

The front compartment defines the model: a curved flap outlined in prominent contrast stitching and secured by a polished gold-tone push-lock, projecting slightly from the body to separate small essentials such as a compact wallet, card case, keys, earphones or small cosmetics. The integrated strap has multiple metal-reinforced adjustment holes, so the bag can sit around the waist, high across the torso, under the arm or over one shoulder, a hands-free versatility that makes the 2007 design feel current.

Under Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton repeatedly challenged the idea that Monogram belonged only on brown coated canvas, exploring it through denim, Multicolore, graffiti, embroidery, artist collaborations and unusual textiles. The M95347 takes the most casual of textiles and gives it the structure, leather detailing and hardware discipline of a luxury travel accessory, an identity quite separate from later Louis Vuitton belt bags. It pairs with white shirts, navy tailoring, cream knitwear, khaki military pieces, Japanese workwear or a contrasting denim wash, and with its box and storage bag it also presents well as an archival display piece.
