The Piece

The M99408 is a miniature interpretation of Louis Vuitton's historic courrier trunk, created not as luggage but as a collectible decorative object within the Maison's VIP gifting tradition. Although it measures only around 15.5 cm wide, it carries the full vocabulary of a trunk: Monogram body panels, warm leather-colored borders, a miniature central strap and horizontal strengthening bands, rows of decorative studs, side carrying handles, reinforced corner fittings and brass-tone locking hardware. Photographed alone, it could pass for a vintage travelling trunk until its scale is revealed.

The model reproduces the Miss France trunk. Christie's describes the Miss France paperweight as a miniature modeled after the women's trunk associated with Miss France 1927, Roberte Cusey, and has catalogued Miss France paperweights together with other miniature trunks and snow globes as limited-edition gifts for VIP clients. Period examples carry Miss France markings and French tricolor references on the ends, details that set the model apart from generic Louis Vuitton miniature trunks.
