The Piece
The jacket is conceived as contrasting worlds. The black side carries a powerful dragon with flame-like accents, traditional cloud formations and dynamic flowing movement; the blue-toned side, in deep teal, shows a large koi surrounded by waves and flowing patterns, inspired by traditional Japanese tattoo imagery and ukiyo-e composition. Cream embroidery stands out with remarkable clarity against the black and ocean blue.
Japanese dragons, unlike their destructive Western counterparts, are connected with water, rain, protection, wisdom and prosperity. The koi represents perseverance, courage, ambition, transformation and good fortune, and in tattoo art koi and waves together signify strength through adversity.
