Kuwagata horns sweep up from the helmet of this full-scale display gusoku, a modern Japanese interpretation of the presentation armor once kept by samurai houses. At 168 cm high, with menpo and lamellar body defenses, it brings ceremonial gravity to an estate interior or a martial-themed collection.
The Piece
This imposing full-scale samurai armor set, yoroi or gusoku, is assembled as a complete display armor with kabuto and traditional fittings. Measuring approximately 168 cm in full display height, it embodies the classic silhouette of late-period samurai presentation armor, intended for ceremonial display, estate interiors or martial-themed collections.
The kabuto features pronounced kuwagata-style horns and a bold frontal presence, evoking martial authority and symbolic protection. The menpo-style face armor reinforces the warrior aspect, while the lamellar construction of the do and kusazuri reflects historical armor traditions translated into a later, display-oriented form.
Although period in style, its visual indicators, uniform materials, assembly style and overall condition, suggest the armor was produced in the modern era for decorative or ceremonial use rather than battlefield deployment. Such armors were commonly commissioned during the late Showa to Heisei periods.
