The Piece

One of the most recognizable silhouettes in Japanese denim, the No.2 Lot 2001 carries the legendary oversized hand-painted yellow Daicock gull across the back pockets. Made in Japan from heavyweight 100% cotton denim, it represents the golden era of Osaka's artisan denim movement, and the bright yellow variation has become one of the most sought-after classic colorways among EVISU collectors, recognized by enthusiasts from Tokyo to New York.

Founded in Osaka in 1991 by Hidehiko Yamane, EVISU revived traditional Japanese denim manufacturing when vintage American workwear was becoming increasingly hard to find. Early pairs emphasized shuttle-loom woven denim, traditional button fly construction, copper rivets, heritage sewing techniques and individually painted Daicock pocket marks. The seagull was originally painted by hand by artisans, making every pair subtly unique; inspired by traditional Japanese brush painting, it stands for craftsmanship, Osaka heritage, artisan production, individuality and vintage Americana interpreted through Japanese design.

EVISU's No.2 denim became known for a softer break-in than No.1, excellent fading potential, comfortable everyday wear, strong vertical fading, rich indigo aging and durable long-term construction. As it ages, the indigo develops high-contrast whiskers, honeycombs and character unique to each wearer.
