The Piece
The sukajan has always been more than a jacket. Born from the meeting of American military culture and Japanese craftsmanship after the Second World War, the souvenir jacket became a canvas on which stories, symbols and personal identity were embroidered, drawing on ukiyo-e imagery, tattoo art, samurai symbolism, kimono decoration and military souvenir fashion. This example carries that tradition in a brown-and-gold palette reminiscent of classic Japanese textile art, with the atmosphere of vintage Japanese biker fashion and yankii culture.
Mirrored tiger heads face each other across the chest, a classic guardian arrangement. The tiger (虎, tora), among the most recognizable motifs in Japanese art and tattoo culture, stands for strength, courage, protection, warrior spirit and fearless determination. Across the back, a large golden dragon (龍, ryū) is surrounded by traditional cloud forms in a full-back composition; unlike its Western counterpart, the Japanese dragon is an elegant spiritual creature of water, clouds and heavenly forces, associated with wisdom, power, protection, transformation and good fortune. Paired, tiger and dragon represent opposing but complementary forces, earthly strength and heavenly power, in balance.
The brown satin body has a quilted texture and is set against champagne-gold satin sleeves, with red, gold and cream ribbed detailing, a full-zip bomber construction, side pockets and the classic souvenir-jacket silhouette.
