A long black gabardine jacket from Spring/Summer 2022 Pour Homme, crossed by exposed silver zips that slash across the front and run in one long line over the back.
The Piece
Zips have been part of the Pour Homme vocabulary since the 1990s, but in Spring/Summer 2022 Yohji Yamamoto used them almost as drawing: long metal lines that cut across tailored jackets at unexpected angles, sometimes functional, sometimes simply there. This piece, model HG-J25-100, is one of the clearest examples.
It is cut from the house's wool gabardine, dense and dry with a soft drape. From the front it reads as a long single-breasted jacket with notched lapels and two buttons, until three diagonal zips appear across the chest and hips. At the back a single zip runs from the shoulder almost to the hem, and opening it changes the fall of the cloth completely.
The length sits at mid-thigh, slightly longer at the front than the back, and the shoulders are soft and natural. A small metal plate at the collar and the cupro lining in the body are the only other details.
Over a white T-shirt and wide black trousers it is very much the modern Pour Homme uniform. It is a jacket for someone who wants the familiar silhouette with a sharper edge.
