Yohji Yamamoto Pour Homme AW2019 Asymmetric Herringbone Long Shirt Jacket with Women Print, Black, Size 2

A runway long shirt-jacket from Autumn/Winter 2019, cut asymmetrically in black herringbone wool and printed across the front and back with ghostly, sketch-like figures of women.

The Piece

Yohji Yamamoto's Pour Homme collection for Autumn/Winter 2019 is remembered for its printed imagery of women, faces and figures dissolving into the cloth of otherwise severe menswear. Japanese collectors refer to these pieces simply as the onna-tachi, the women, and they were among the most sought-after designs of the season.

This one is a long shirt-jacket in heavy black wool herringbone, with 10% nylon for strength, printed in pale grey so that the figures appear to have been drawn in chalk over the weave. The cut is deliberately off-balance: the front fastens on an offset placket, the collar has raw, frayed edges and loose stitching left visible by design, and side vents of different heights open the hem. Cuffs and pocket details are lined in cotton and cupro.

The interior carries the Yohji Yamamoto Pour Homme signature label, size 2, and the composition tag with product code HC-B70-146. The piece is described by the previous owner as a runway look.

Length falls just above the knee, so it works both as a shirt layered under a coat and as a light jacket in its own right. The shoulders are natural and the body roomy, the classic Pour Homme proportion.
