A studded lamb leather blouson from Undercoverism’s Autumn-Winter 2005 Arts and Crafts season, finished with an original aged patina, a deep pile collar and lining and rows of studs across the pocket flaps.
The Piece
Autumn-Winter 2005, Arts and Crafts, is the season many Undercover collectors regard as Jun Takahashi’s most complete statement on handwork. After the punk deconstruction of the early 2000s he turned towards patina, mending and the hand of the maker, and the leathers from that winter are among the most sought pieces of the whole archive. This blouson has also been singled out in Japanese media by the designer of Porter Classic as a personal favourite.
It is cut from soft lamb leather that was given its worn, broken-in finish at the factory, so the creasing and tonal variation across the body are original to the design rather than age. A tall pile collar can be worn up or folded, and the same dense pile lines the body. Two slanted lower pockets are trimmed with rows of small studs, a zip runs at each cuff and the back is cut with a seamed yoke and waist zip detail.
The interior carries the Undercoverism For Rebels label in orange on black, size 2, made in Japan by Under Cover. Undercoverism was the menswear line of that period, and its labels are a reliable marker of the era.
Size 2 corresponds roughly to a men’s medium. It wears close and warm, with the collar framing the face. For a collector of Takahashi leathers, this is a cornerstone piece.
