The Piece

Prada has always approached leather with a designer’s detachment rather than a biker’s nostalgia, and this jacket shows it. The classic asymmetric rider is rendered in an unexpected, almost acid mustard yellow, the kind of colour Miuccia Prada uses to make a familiar garment look newly strange.

The calfskin is soft with a slight natural grain and a gently uneven, hand-finished tone. The cut follows the motorcycle archetype: wide notched lapels, a diagonal front zip, slanted zipped hand pockets and zipped cuffs. The shoulders carry curved padded panels, the back is cut with triangular seaming, and at each hip a laced leather thong lets the waist be adjusted, its ends left long and loose. The zip pull is a small leather triangle, an echo of the house logo. Inside, a diamond-quilted black lining and padding make it warm enough for autumn, and an embossed Prada Milano leather patch sits at the neck.

The reference UPW416 places it in Prada’s menswear leather line; the exact season has not been confirmed. It was made in Italy.

The colour is the point: worn with black or grey it becomes the single bright note of an outfit, and the laced sides let the fit be tuned to sit closer or looser at the hip. Size 48 is a men’s medium to large, cut short at the waist with a roomy 57 cm chest, so it sits over a knit without strain.
