A Prada menswear jacket from Autumn/Winter 1999 in olive-brown technical nylon, with a tall stand collar, layered quilted panels and a belt strap, as walked on the runway.
The Piece
Miuccia Prada's menswear of the late 1990s took military and utility garments and refined them in technical nylon, the material that had made the house famous. Autumn/Winter 1999 is a high point of that period, and its outerwear is collected today by people who prize the era's austere, functional elegance.
This jacket is cut in olive-brown nylon with a soft sheen. It has a high stand collar with a zip and hook-and-loop storm flap, a chest flap pocket, a zipped lower pocket and a strap belt at the hip. Below the waist at the back, a quilted panel is layered over the shell. The zip pull is engraved Prada Milano, and the inside carries the Prada label, Made in Italy. The first photograph is the runway look.
Size XL, with a 52.5 cm shoulder and 64 cm across the chest; roomy, suiting a men's large to extra large.
Late-1990s Prada menswear set the template for much of what followed in technical luxury, and runway pieces from those seasons are increasingly hard to find in larger sizes. This jacket shows light wear but keeps its colour and structure.
