The Piece
Alongside the melted-sole sneakers, Maison Mihara Yasuhiro has built a small cult around its Dolls bags: soft, sewn-leather animals that are part plush toy, part accessory, and wholly in keeping with a designer who has always treated humour as a serious design tool. Each one is pieced from panels of supple sheepskin like a hand-made stuffed animal, then fitted with a zip, silver-tone hardware and a nylon webbing strap so it can be worn across the body or hung from a bag.
The T-Rex is the most theatrical of the Dolls. Reference A14BG709 is modelled seated on its haunches with its jaws open in a full roar, teeth picked out in stitched leather, tiny forelimbs raised and a long tapering tail that balances the figure. A silver-tone zip runs down the back, opening into a lined compartment large enough for cards, keys and earphones, and the Maison Mihara Yasuhiro name is printed in white along the spine.
Worn across the body on its black webbing strap, or clipped to a larger bag by its swivel clasp, it reads as both a joke and a piece of craftsmanship. In all-black sheepskin it is surprisingly versatile, as at home with tailoring as with streetwear.
