A Junya Watanabe x Levi's skirt that begins as a faded denim jean front and falls into tiers of navy wool-blend ruffles, cut long and high-low at the back.
The Piece
Junya Watanabe has used Levi's denim as raw material for his womenswear for two decades, and his skirts made from deconstructed jeans are some of the most wearable expressions of that dialogue. This one, dated AD2021 on the care label, keeps the top of a five-pocket jean intact and lets the rest dissolve into soft tailoring cloth.
From the waistband down to mid-thigh it is pure Levi's denim with strong whiskered fading, the original button fly and the red Levi's and Junya Watanabe co-branded label inside. Beneath, a cascade of navy wool and polyester ruffles is set in staggered tiers, longer at the back than the front, so the denim panel reads like an apron over a full skirt.
The contrast of rigid, washed cotton above and fluid dark wool below gives it real movement; it works with a plain knit and flat boots or a crisp white shirt.
