A sculptural Junya Watanabe top built from dozens of folded pyramids of sheer smoke nylon, each edged in black, a wearable piece of the designer’s long study of origami and geometric construction.

The Piece

Since his first collections in the early 1990s, Junya Watanabe has been known as fashion’s great engineer, a designer who treats fabric as something to be folded, pleated and assembled like architecture. His womenswear returns again and again to three-dimensional geometry, and the pieces that result are prized by collectors as studies in technique as much as clothing.

This top, reference JO-V001 with a 2024 production code, is made entirely of fine sheer nylon formed into rows of crisp triangular pyramids that project from the body like a crystal. Each fold is bound in a narrow black edge so the structure reads as a drawing in space. It is lighter than it looks, and it fastens with snaps at the side.

Cut short and boxy, it can be worn over a fitted black top or dress so the translucent structure reads against it. Size S fits a small to medium frame; the sculpture extends well beyond the body, so the measurements are given flat.
