An Issey Miyake tunic in sheer, bubbled pleat fabric, divided down the body by a curving seam into black on one side and electric violet on the other.
The Piece
Issey Miyake's mainline returns again and again to pleating as a way of building volume without weight. Here the pleat is a fine, horizontal bubble texture in a sheer polyester, so the tunic holds a rounded, airy shape while remaining almost transparent against the light.
The tunic, model IM23-FJ111, has a low stand collar and elbow-length sleeves. A wavering seam runs from the collar to the hem, black on one side and a saturated violet on the other, and the colour split continues across the back in mirror image. The body curves out softly and comes back in at the hem, giving a gentle cocoon line.
It layers well over a fine black slip or a close turtleneck, which also suits the sheer fabric.
