A new Isamu Katayama Backlash 1927-01 double riders jacket in Rally Yellow, Japanese calfskin vegetable-tanned in Japan, product-washed and naturally dyed, from a run that sold out in advance.

The Piece

Since 1999 Isamu Katayama Backlash has defined Japanese designer leather, and the 1927-01 double riders jacket is one of its best-known models. Cut on the lines of the classic Lightning double rider, lean and rock-and-roll in spirit, it has been worn widely by Japanese musicians and is said to be a favourite of the designer himself. The model was reportedly worn by Koshi Inaba in a music video, and this colourway sold out at the pre-order stage.

This jacket is in Rally Yellow, a saturated, sporting yellow that the label likens to the colour of classic performance cars. The leather is Backlash’s signature Japan calf: Japanese calfskin tanned with natural tannins by a long-established Japanese tannery, worked with natural oils, then product-washed and naturally dyed after construction, the process the label also uses for its The Line collection. The result is soft, slightly irregular in tone and full of character. The asymmetric front zip runs beneath snap lapels, with zipped chest and hand pockets, buckled straps at the hem, zipped cuffs and a black rayon lining; a tan leather patch inside carries the Backlash name.

The fit is close in the body and long in the sleeve, true to the Backlash riders pattern, and the tagged L suits a medium to large frame.

It is new and unworn, an uncommon opportunity in a colour that rarely resurfaces.
