A Hermès Bolide 1923 35 pieced like a landscape from perforated Swift, shiny alligator and lizard in shades of blue and green, a rare atelier patchwork from 2019.
The Piece
The Bolide 1923 revisits the domed silhouette of the first zipped bag, designed by Émile-Maurice Hermès in 1923. On this rare edition the ateliers treated the body as a picture: bands of leather cut into rolling hills and horizon lines, assembled like marquetry so that the bag reads as a landscape from either side.
The panels combine perforated and smooth Swift in Bleu Encre, Bleu Zellige and Bleu Nuit with deep green, a band of shiny alligator and a section of lizard. The square mark beside the Hermès Paris Made in France stamp confirms the alligator. The handles are in dark Swift, and the hardware is palladium.
Inside, the bag is lined in blue with two open pockets. The D stamp dates it to 2019, and it comes with its detachable shoulder strap, cadena, key, clochette, rain cover and box.
At about 35 by 28 cm with a 14 cm gusset, it is a practical everyday size, carried by hand or worn across the body on its strap of about 90 cm.
