A Gianni Versace pendant necklace from the late 1980s to 1990s, a domed Medusa medallion ringed with rhinestones and the Greca key, hung from a long double gold-tone chain.
The Piece
Before 1997, every piece of Versace jewellery carried Gianni's own name, and the Medusa medallions he made in those years are the most recognisable costume jewellery of the period. They were worn as statements, often several at once, and are now prized by collectors for their weight and finish.
This pendant is 5.6 cm across, domed, with the Medusa head at its centre inside a double ring of clear rhinestones, then a broad band of the Greca key. More stones circle the bail. The back is finished in a radiating texture and stamped Gianni Versace, Made in Italy. It hangs from a double cable chain 72 cm long, with a lobster clasp.
Every rhinestone is present, and the gilding is bright overall.
Gianni-era Medusa pendants with full rhinestone rings are particularly sought after because stones are so often lost over the years. This one is complete and ready to wear, over a plain knit or an open shirt.

- Graded close to unworn.
- Slight discolouration on a few chain links, shown in the photographs.
- Very fine surface marks typical of vintage gilding.
- All rhinestones present.
