A Ficce Uomo shirt in pure silk, printed with Muttley from Wacky Races in gilded baroque cartouches, circus horses and dancers, with solid navy cuffs and placket.
The Piece
Ficce, Yoshiyuki Konishi's label, was at its most extravagant in the late 1980s and early 1990s, when its silk shirts mixed Versace-style baroque scrolls with Japanese pop culture. Its licensed Hanna-Barbera prints, featuring Muttley, known in Japan as Ken-Ken, from Wacky Races, are among the most sought after.
This shirt, model NCB-314, is 100% silk. The body is a carnival scene: ringmasters, white horses and acrobats among gold acanthus scrolls, with a large Muttley medallion on the back and a row of framed Muttley portraits running around the hem. The collar band, cuffs and lower body are navy silk, and the back carries a ribbon inscribed with the Wacky Races and Ficce Uomo names.
It is cut loose, with side slits of 12 cm, a 45 cm shoulder and 59 cm across the chest. It has been professionally cleaned.
Character prints from Ficce are among the label's most collectable shirts, combining licensed cartoon imagery with the label's maximal baroque style. In silk and in clean order, this one is ready to wear open over a T-shirt or buttoned up with tailored trousers.
