An eYe Junya Watanabe MAN blouson with a complete Karrimor Ridge 40 rucksack built into its back, a signature of the designer’s habit of fusing outdoor equipment with tailoring-grade construction.

The Piece

Junya Watanabe has spent two decades treating heritage outdoor brands as raw material rather than licensors. Under eYe, the experimental diffusion of his MAN line, the Karrimor partnership produced some of his most quoted pieces: jackets that literally wear a backpack. The British mountaineering house supplied its Ridge 40 pattern, and Watanabe stitched the pack directly into the garment so that straps, buckles and compression cords become part of the jacket’s back.

This example, reference WK-J912 with a 2022 production code, is cut as a short collared blouson in a beige stretch nylon blend, with grey reinforcement panels at the shoulders, elbows and hem, a utility sleeve pocket with pen slots, two large bellows chest pockets and a two-way zip. The pack on the back carries the Karrimor logo and Ridge 40 marking, with working side-release buckles, and the lining is a vivid Karrimor blue printed with the 40+ mark.

The cut is broad through the shoulders and body with a cropped length and ribbed cuffs and hem, so it sits like a flight blouson. Size M fits most men from a medium to a slim large; worn over a hoodie it keeps its sculptural silhouette.
