The Piece

discord is Yohji Yamamoto's accessories line, launched to bring the house's thinking about form and material to bags. Its best-known design is the GETA, named after the traditional Japanese geta sandal: the square body suggests the wooden base, and the handles that loop continuously around the bag recall the cords that hold the foot.

This is the smaller version, in a supple black calf leather with a soft sheen. Two long handles run in one piece from the top, down each face and beneath the base, framing the bag on both sides. The signature logo is debossed quietly on the front, and a detachable leather shoulder strap is included so it can be carried by hand or across the body.

The top closes with a zip, and the interior is lined in black with a zipped pocket for small things. Gussets at the sides let the bag expand slightly while keeping its squared, architectural outline.

Compact enough for evening, structured enough for every day, it is one of the most recognisable shapes in contemporary Japanese design and a natural companion to Yohji Yamamoto clothing.
