The jacket that opened the Autumn/Winter 2002 show, reissued in a small overseas-exclusive run: black wool gabardine with a pair of white and flame-red embroidered wings spread across the peak lapels.
The Piece
Autumn/Winter 2002 is one of the most loved Pour Homme seasons, rich in yuzen prints and pony-hair, and its opening look was this peak-lapel jacket with embroidered wings at the collar. It appeared in the season's advertising as well as on the runway, and for many collectors it is the image of 2002. Originals are scarcely seen.
This is the Replica reissue, made in a limited run for an overseas store in the 2020s and rarely seen in Japan. It reproduces the original faithfully in the house wool gabardine: three buttons, peak lapels, full lining, no vent, and working cuff buttons left visible. The wings are embroidered in white rayon and polyester with gradations of orange and red at their roots, one on each lapel, so that they meet like a collar of feathers when the jacket is buttoned.
The Yohji Yamamoto Pour Homme signature label is inside, size 2, made in Japan, with product code HG-J63-111.
It wears as a classic Pour Homme jacket, slightly long with a natural shoulder. Buttoned over a white shirt it is pure 2002; open over a black tee, the wings become a flash of colour at the throat.
