Whirlpools curl across the sleeves and body of this black satin sukajan, through which a dragon twists in continuous motion while a tiger confronts a glowing red orb on the chest. Its painterly force recalls eccentric Japanese ink-and-color painting, and a gold brocade interior adds a courtly second register.
The Piece
The primary side is a black satin-like shell with taupe-brown ribbed trim. The back expands into a large dragon composition, its elongated body twisting through spirals; on the front a dramatic tiger head clutches or confronts a red orb, or tama, in a confrontation-like interplay with the dragon; and whirlpool or vortex forms in dusty mauve and brown sweep across the sleeves, chest and back, evoking storm currents, water power, wind and painterly brush energy. Dragon and tiger are worked in muted gold tones, and the red tama is the single strong accent.
In Japanese art the dragon represents elemental power, protection, rain and water, and movement between heaven and earth, wisdom joined to ferocity; the tiger brings courage and protective force, and the pairing expresses opposing but balanced energies. The sacred orb suggests spiritual power, wisdom and attainment. The swirling currents, dynamic asymmetry and dramatic negative space give the embroidery an expressive art-language in the spirit collectors associate with Soga Shōhaku.
Inside, or on the reverse, a gold brocade textile in warm gold with muted bronze, ochre and pale green tones carries woven florals, chrysanthemum-like forms, fan-like motifs, scrolling elements and classical textile geometry, elegant and almost kimono-like against the forceful exterior. Construction includes a full front zipper, ribbed collar, cuffs and hem, raglan-style sleeves and high-density embroidery. The design follows the postwar souvenir-jacket tradition in a later, more art-conscious interpretation.

Fit Guidance
The tag size is not visible in the photographs, and visual proportions suggest a standard adult unisex sukajan fit.
