A Toys McCoy G-1 built to the U.S. Navy 55J14 pattern and illustrated as a naval-aviation tribute to Felix the Cat. The reverse names USS Intrepid CV-11 beneath a large “Wild Gadget” title, and the jacket, worn only a few times, is graded rank A.

The Piece

This G-1 follows the U.S. Navy 55J14 lineage: mouton collar, slanted patch pockets, zip front, ribbed waistband and cuffs, a short naval flight silhouette and a “U.S.N.” collar stencil. The brown leather shell carries the pebbled grain of the G-1 type and enough firmness to hold the line of the body. The label reads BU AER U.S. Navy G-1 Flight Jacket Spec. 55J14 (AER), Contract No. N-3838-96142, Toys McCoy MFG. Co.

The graphics form a sequence of naval-aviation tributes centered on Felix the Cat, illustrated, printed or transfer-style, integrated over the shell. The front uses “Felix the Cat VF-8” graphic language and a “Wild Gadget” insignia motif in carrier-squadron vocabulary. The back expands into a large “Wild Gadget” title over Felix riding a bomb, with “USS Intrepid CV-11” named above a naval wings motif.

Naming a known carrier anchors the cartoon in real naval history, while the restrained front keeps the jacket wearable zipped or open. Felix belongs to the long tradition of military cartoon mascots that gave dangerous work a language of wit and bravado, and the jacket translates that spirit without imitating age.
