This piece travels in a crate or by freight rather than standard mail, and may need careful dismantling before it can be packed. The shipping shown at checkout is an estimate. Japonista reserves the right to determine the final handling, crating and freight cost when your order is received, according to the piece, the destination and carrier conditions at that time.
We advise requesting a delivery quote before checkout. If the final cost is higher than the amount paid, we send the difference for your approval before dispatch. Your piece is held for you until it is settled.

Furniture as liturgy: a 150 cm lacquered altar table at the front, a kyoroku chair for the officiant and twin side desks to hold implements and offerings, all finished with gilt fittings. Built to order by a Japanese workshop in a choice of three color motifs, the ensemble gives a sanctum, chapel or institutional display its proper scale and order.
The Piece
This is ritual architecture rather than decorative furniture. The ensemble comprises a large lacquered front altar table, a chair-form kyoroku for officiant seating and a matched pair of side desks for implements and offerings. Built as functional interior architecture, it provides correct proportions and coherent visual discipline for a sanctum, a chapel room or institutional staging.
Its appeal lies in the architecture of use: wide working planes, a stable stance and a coherent system of lacquer and gilded hardware that reads as a unified interior. The construction is lacquered wood with gilt-finish metal fittings, formal and architectural in character, with clean planes and hardware that acts as structural punctuation rather than ornament.
In a home the scale becomes an estate sanctum; in studios and institutions it becomes a ready-made exhibition platform for Buddhist objects and contextual staging. For collectors who own statues, ritual metalwork, hanging ornaments or portable shrines, the furniture layer is often the missing element that creates immediate presence, an instant foundation for a devotional interior or a museum-style presentation for those building a room rather than acquiring a single object.

Freight & Crating
As a multi-component set, the ensemble is best moved by freight or cargo with professional packing; where possible the components are separated to reduce impact risk and optimize crate geometry. Total estimated US landed cost is approx. $6,000–$8,750 USD.
Owing to its packed weight and dimensions, the set cannot travel by parcel services such as Japan Post EMS, DHL, FedEx or UPS. Custom crating, reinforced packing, coordination with domestic logistics providers and scheduling with international freight consolidators and export brokers mean delivery typically takes 6 to 10 weeks after manufacture, depending on routing, carrier availability and customs clearance in the destination country.
Actual shipping costs may differ from automated calculator estimates, and a portion of the expected shipping cost may be reflected in the price; any difference is quoted separately once destination, delivery method and handling requirements are confirmed. Collectors are asked to request an exact shipping quotation for their destination before purchase.
- HS 9403.60 (other wooden furniture) is a best-fit estimate for customs forms; final HS/HTS determination depends on destination-country interpretation.
Authenticity & Care
The materials are lacquered wood with gilt-finish metal fittings; the exact lacquer system and wood species have not been examined in hand, and the finish is best regarded as a production workshop lacquer unless documentation is provided. Every piece is examined and documented in Japan before dispatch and is offered with the Japonista authenticity guarantee.
