The Piece

Share Spirit is a Japanese label known for maximal, hand-finished pieces that mix vintage imagery, embroidery and beadwork, made in very small numbers and much loved by collectors of decorative Japanese fashion. Its take on the sukajan, the souvenir jacket that began in post-war Yokosuka, keeps the familiar bomber shape but replaces satin and dragons with a dense collage of devotional and folk motifs.

This is the spring-summer 2024 silk bamboo souvenir jacket, reference FS2418AD. The shell is a light, fluid blend of bamboo and silk, printed front and back in a patchwork of pink, red, turquoise and cream panels: flaming sacred hearts, praying hands, birds, lettering and a large botanical cross on the back. Across the front the print is lifted by hand-applied glass beads, sequins and stitched outlines, most densely around the central heart at the neck. The sleeves are cream with braided multicoloured tapes running down each side, and the collar, cuffs and hem are ribbed in a metallic taupe knit.

The cut is long and loose, with dropped shoulders and full, gathered sleeves; at 83 cm long and 62 cm across the chest it wears oversized, so the tagged size S will suit a broad range of frames.

It is a wearable piece of textile art and one of the more elaborate pieces in the label’s recent work.
