A Kurikara dragon coiled around a ritual sword crowns this modern display yoroi, an emblem of obstacles subdued and wild force turned to protection. Built in the vocabulary of historical samurai armor, the full gusoku set gives interiors and private collections the commanding presence of a warrior suit without the fragility of an antique.
The Piece
The silhouette reads as classic gusoku: a kabuto with a pronounced frontal ornament, menpo face mask, cuirass, kusazuri skirt plates and layered sode shoulder guards, assembled for display and photographed against a warm gold-screen backdrop that heightens its ceremonial presence.
The iconography deserves special attention. The dragon wrapped around a ken, a ritual sword, is widely recognized in Japanese visual language as a Kurikara-style emblem: a dragon coiling around a blade to embody the subjugation of obstacles and the transformation of chaotic force into disciplined protection. In historical religious contexts the image is closely associated with the Fudo Myoo tradition, where the sword cuts through delusion and the dragon expresses power harnessed rather than unleashed. As a maedate it functions as a heraldic statement, protective, theatrical and legible from across a room.
This is not presented as a period battlefield suit. It is a modern display armor made in the historical language of Japanese arms, intended for interior installation, hospitality environments, dojo display or private collections where presence matters as much as documentary antiquity. Modern display yoroi can be compelling in their own right, translating the architecture of lamellar construction, the rhythm of cord lacing and lacquered surface aesthetics into an object that communicates the samurai world instantly, without the fragility, rarity and compliance complexity that often accompany true antiques.
The photographs suggest lacquered elements and textile lacing consistent with contemporary assembly. The dragon-ken maedate reads immediately in photographs and presents exceptionally well in storefronts, galleries and private interiors. The piece suits the collector who curates atmosphere, whether a library room, a tea-and-arts space, a dojo corner or a modern cabinet of arms, and anyone who responds to protective symbolism, discipline over chaos and fire over fear, will find the Kurikara language unmistakably intentional.

Authenticity & Care
Presented as a modern display yoroi in the style of Japanese gusoku, not as battlefield-used period armor or a documented antique unless separate written provenance is provided and verified. There is no credible basis to assign it to a specific daimyo, clan house or documented historical original design; it is best read as a modern workshop build adopting traditional forms, with an overt Kurikara-inspired maedate. Every piece is examined and documented in Japan before dispatch and is offered with the Japonista authenticity guarantee.
