The Folia lamp by Saint-Louis, the crystal house of the Hermès group, a hand-cut crystal dome on a dark wooden tripod that scatters light in a lattice of leaf-shaped facets.
The Piece
Cristallerie Saint-Louis was founded in Lorraine in 1586 and has belonged to the Hermès group since 1989. Folia is its most recognisable modern design: a dome of clear crystal cut by hand with overlapping leaf-shaped facets, so the bulb inside throws a pattern of light like sun through foliage.
This is the larger floor-standing version, Lampe à poser Folia on legs, reference 15068700. The crystal dome rests on a turned wooden tray carried by three splayed legs in dark-stained ash. It stands about 66 cm high and 37 cm wide, tall enough to work on the floor beside a chair or on a low console.
The rating label was issued by Hermès Japon and dated 2023. The lamp is wired for Japanese 100 V with an E17 bulb holder and a Panasonic foot switch. For use outside Japan it will need a step-down transformer or rewiring by an electrician to local standards.
Supplied in its Saint-Louis box, which shows marks and a tear.
