The Cosmograph Daytona 116505 in solid 18k Everose gold, with the coveted black dial and rose-gold sub-dials, a random-serial example complete with box and warranty card.
The Piece
The Daytona is the defining chronograph of the modern era, and the 116505 is its most refined warm-metal expression before the ceramic-bezel generation. Rolex introduced Everose in 2005, a proprietary 18k rose gold alloyed with platinum so that its colour does not fade, and the 116505 put it on a full Oyster case and bracelet.
This example carries the black dial with Everose sub-dial rings and centres, matched applied indices and baton hands. The engraved gold tachymeter bezel, screw-down pushers and Triplock crown complete the case, which measures 40 mm, the brand's own official dimension for this model.
Inside is calibre 4130, Rolex's in-house column-wheel chronograph with vertical clutch, a design that reduced parts count and extended the power reserve to around 72 hours. The Oyster bracelet closes with the Oysterlock folding clasp and Easylink extension, and the clasp is hallmarked 750.
The serial begins 46J, the random alphanumeric sequence Rolex adopted from around 2010. In gold, the 116505 has become one of the most stable collector Daytonas, as well suited to daily wear as to the safe.
