One face shows a silver dragon surging through storm clouds; the other, crimson koi climbing a waterfall beneath pine and cherry blossom. Read together, the two sides retell the Dragon Gate legend, perseverance on one face and transformation on the other, in a reversible sukajan of unusual coherence.
The Piece
The principal face is lustrous black satin-finish fabric with pale beige ribbing and a restrained embroidery palette. At the center of the back a Japanese dragon moves horizontally through a storm, its body rendered in charcoal, steel grey, silver and ivory so the scales stay distinct. Its face carries a sharp, tattoo-like intensity: layered horns, flame-shaped eyebrows, long whiskers, open jaws, pronounced fangs and a curling mane above a scaled torso, extended claws, articulated legs and a sweeping tail. The head turns toward the viewer, one foreleg reaches down through the cloud, and red flame accents cross the back and body, the strongest color on this face.
Thick ivory and pale silver cloud forms surround the dragon and continue across both raglan sleeves and both sides of the torso, with smaller circular droplets or atmospheric orbs filling the negative space. There are no isolated chest badges; the composition completes itself when worn, the sleeve clouds joining the chest when the arms are relaxed and parting as they move. The dragon sits on the central back panel without a medallion or frame, its scales individually articulated, its beard and mane in longer directional stitches, its claws sharply outlined and fine white lines tracing the face.
The reverse has a smoky lavender-grey satin body, aged ivory sleeves and thin orange piping along the shoulder and sleeve seams. A stylized pine sits on one chest panel and a red koi on the other, introducing a panoramic back of crimson koi, layered blue waterfalls, curling wave crests, turquoise-green pine, pale pink and white cherry blossoms, grey atmospheric space and fine gold and blue linear details. The koi, in deep red, rust, orange and subtle gold, climb through the water: one near the top, one curving through the center, a third emerging from the lower side. Pine foliage, koi and selected elements carry dimensional threadwork, while portions of the landscape appear integrated into or printed upon the satin, giving the side the feel of a kimono, obi or screen panel.
In East Asian legend the carp that ascends the waterfall at the Dragon Gate becomes a dragon, an image of endurance, ambition and success earned through struggle. Whether intended or not, the jacket stages both chapters: koi and waterfall as adversity, the dragon as transformation achieved. Matsu pine, evergreen through winter, adds longevity and resilience; sakura adds spring, renewal and transience. The rib-knit collar, cuffs and waistband are striped in beige, taupe and dark brown-grey, and the satin surface shifts with light and movement.

- Older pre-owned garment in vintage condition with visible age-related patina, creasing and discoloration, most evident on the lighter side; the dragon, clouds, flames and circular details on the black face remain clearly legible and substantially intact.
- General creasing and folding throughout both faces, with surface rippling and natural puckering where dense embroidery meets lightweight satin.
- Age-related tonal variation and mottled shading across the reverse body.
- Visible discoloration and darkening on the pale ivory sleeves, including grey, beige and brownish marks.
- Discoloration, darkening and visible patina around the rib-knit collar, cuffs and waistband.
- Possible storage-related marks, minor thread irregularities and normal evidence of previous wear; vintage satin may reveal small marks, pulls, loose fibers or surface irregularities under changing light.
- The black dragon face presents more strongly and suits regular wear or display. No claim of mint, deadstock or unworn condition is made.

Fit Guidance
Manufacturer's size S. Japanese sizing often runs smaller than contemporary Western sizing, and this jacket generally suits an adult XS–S depending on shoulder width, chest, arm length and layering. The raglan sleeves give some flexibility through the shoulders, but body and hem govern the fit: a classic fitted silhouette on a petite wearer, light layering on a very slim one, and a more relaxed bomber on a youth or teenager depending on measurements. Flat measurements are not yet recorded.
