The Piece

The care label dates this jacket to 2022, a period in which Prada leaned into photographic, almost dreamlike prints laid over its most practical garments. Here a sulphur-yellow ground is overprinted in grainy black with images of a fox, dandelion seed heads, pine silhouettes and old-fashioned light bulbs, the effect somewhere between a faded photocopy and a forest at night.

The garment beneath the print is a classic Prada utility shape: a shirt-collared field jacket in heavy nylon with flapped chest pockets, a snap and zip front, and a matching belt carrying a small zipped pouch faced with the enamel triangle. It is lined in black polyester and lightly padded, so it works as a cold-weather jacket rather than a shell.

Reference SGC091 with production code S222 appears on the label, along with Prada’s multi-country sizing (L, Mexico 40, China 180/100A). It was made in Italy. Belted, it takes on the outline of a safari jacket; open, it hangs straight and easy like a short parka. The print is loud, but the shape underneath is practical Prada, and the result is a piece that collectors of the house’s graphic seasons look for.
