The Peterson in smooth black leather on the white Original Sole, the most wearable expression of Mihara Yasuhiro’s melted-sole idea, in EU 43 and worn only a few times.

The Piece

Mihara Yasuhiro trained at Tama Art University and began with footwear, which is why the shoe has always been the centre of his house. The Original Sole, modelled by hand in clay by the designer and then cast in rubber, keeps the slumped, melted contours of that first sculpture, so every pair looks as if a classic vulcanised sneaker had been left too close to the stove. The Peterson is the cap-toe low-top at the heart of the range, and in leather it becomes the dressiest version of the shoe.

This pair is in smooth black leather with contrast white stitching, tonal eyelets, the MMY tongue label and a white rubber toe cap set into the melted white sidewall. The leather gives a cleaner outline than canvas and takes a soft polish, while the rubber sole keeps all of the sculpted irregularity that defines the brand.

Worn, it bridges the gap between a classic court shoe and a statement piece, equally at ease with tailored trousers or wide denim. The leather will mould to the foot with wear. EU 43 corresponds to approximately JP 28 cm on this last.
