Takashi Murakami’s character universe meets one of Louis Vuitton’s cleanest contemporary silhouettes. Crisp white calf carries a quietly embossed Monogram, interrupted only by removable leather character patches on the laces: classic Louis Vuitton at a distance, unmistakably Murakami up close.

The Piece

The renewed LV x TM collaboration revisits the dialogue that transformed the house’s visual language in the early 2000s. This time Murakami’s colorful characters and Superflat vocabulary are set against a far quieter base: instead of covering the shoe in saturated graphics, the sculpted white leather and embossed Monogram act as a gallery wall for removable illustrations. Louis Vuitton identifies the model as the LV x TM Time Out Sneaker, reference 1AGZGR.

The familiar low-profile Time Out upper gains depth through embossing, with LV initials and Monogram Flowers rising in relief rather than in contrasting color. The white laces carry detachable LV x TM leather patches whose pink, orange, green, black and cream tones float against the monochrome upper, the kind of color collision that has defined Murakami’s work for decades, and colorful LV signatures on the tongue and heel are reinterpreted through his graphic language. Here Murakami does not replace the Monogram; he interrupts it, and the tension between permanence and play gives the sneaker its personality.

Because the patches are removable, the pair has two characters: attached, a highly recognizable LV x TM statement; removed, a quieter shoe in which the embossed leather takes center stage. The elevated treaded rubber outsole gives the Time Out its raised profile while keeping low-top proportions. It is an unusually wearable Murakami collaboration, at home with white or cream tailoring, wide denim, minimal black trousers, technical outerwear, oversized knitwear, monochrome streetwear and Louis Vuitton Monogram accessories, and its embossed upper sets it apart from the more obvious all-over Murakami prints.
