From the 2025 re-edition of Louis Vuitton × Takashi Murakami, the M14162 was offered only in Japan; this example is brand new with box, dust bag and Murakami ribbon.

The Piece

The 2025 Louis Vuitton × Murakami collection revisited the Maison's early-2000s collaboration with Takashi Murakami, reintroducing his motifs through modern materials and new configurations, and was launched at the beginning of 2025 with a selection of Japan-exclusive wallets and small leather goods. The M14162 belongs to that Japan-limited offering, a regional limitation that ties the piece to Murakami's own country and gives it particular appeal to collectors outside Japan.

The wallet keeps the elongated Zippy architecture, and the artwork occupies its lower half. Blossoms rise in red, blue, yellow, white, pink and green on thin stems, overlapping and repeating irregularly like a garden border, with several of Murakami's smiling flower faces among more conventional blooms. Above, the brown Monogram field stays calm, acting almost like dark soil from which the color emerges. The flowers are layered over the Monogram rather than replacing it.

Murakami's flowers are among the most recognizable symbols in contemporary Japanese art: bright color, simple geometry, symmetry, cartoon expression and repetition. His work is closely associated with Superflat, which flattens the distinctions between high and low culture across anime, commercial imagery and fine art. On this wallet European luxury heritage and Murakami's cartoon imagery coexist on one surface, neither canceling the other.

Opening the gold-tone zip reveals vivid pink leather, a theatrical contrast hidden until the wallet is opened. Inside are 12 card slots, 3 gusseted compartments, a banknote compartment, a zipped coin pocket and 2 flat pockets. Practical for everyday use and colorful enough to carry alone as a small clutch, it also displays well upright in its presentation box beside early-2000s Murakami pieces, Monogram Multicolore or Cherry Blossom accessories.
