Classic Monogram, interrupted: cobalt-blue dots and sweeping red strokes cross the brown canvas of this 2016 Palm Springs PM from the Jungle Dots collection. Made in France and carrying date code FL1106, it is one of the most recognizable limited seasonal interpretations of the backpack.

The Piece

The Jungle Dots treatment uses the familiar Monogram canvas as a foundation rather than the final design. Across the brown canvas, among the traditional LV initials and flowers, cobalt dots float irregularly and vivid red lines sweep through like tropical foliage seen in motion, breaking the regularity of the repeat and giving the bag an energetic, almost hand-painted look. Part of Louis Vuitton's 2016 seasonal design language, it has become one of the more recognizable graphic Palm Springs variants of the period, layering color and movement without abandoning the house Monogram.

The Palm Springs PM is one of the house's most recognizable contemporary backpack shapes: rounded top profile, compact vertical body, top carry handle, double-zip main compartment, front zipper pocket and adjustable padded shoulder straps, with meaningful capacity and none of the bulk of a travel backpack. The asymmetric placement of the print wraps around the curved surfaces, so different sections of blue and red appear as the bag turns; the motif continues across the front pocket, keeping it part of the composition.

Black leather at the top handle, shoulder straps, zipper pulls, front pocket trim, attachment points and reinforcement details frames the vivid print, and the black padded straps give a quieter reverse view. Gold-tone hardware at the main and pocket zippers, strap hardware and buckles warms the palette of Monogram brown, dark chocolate, cobalt, red and black. The interior is a straightforward open compartment for a phone, wallet, card case, sunglasses, keys and a compact notebook.

2016 production, French manufacture, a limited seasonal and now discontinued pattern and the FL1106 date code give this example strong collector appeal. The brown Monogram base makes it easier to style than its colors suggest, with black, brown, camel, denim, cream, navy, olive and leather jackets.
