Introduced in 2020, the New Wave Multi Pochette carries Louis Vuitton's modular pochette idea into sculpted chevron-quilted calfskin. This near-unused black example is complete with its wide logo strap, gold-tone chain, round quilted coin purse and dust bag: one compact bag with several personalities.

The Piece

The New Wave Multi Pochette arrived in 2020 as an evolution of Louis Vuitton's highly successful modular Pochette concept, described at the time as a new leather interpretation of the Multi Pochette built in quilted calfskin and supplied with a wide shoulder strap, gold-tone chain and detachable round coin purse. Reference M56461 corresponds specifically to the black version.

In place of coated canvas, the body is supple black calfskin with deep wave quilting: diagonal channels travel across the leather and meet in a pronounced V, so light moves across a surface whose color stays restrained. An oversized gold-tone LV anchors the magnetic flap, giving immediate recognition without an all-over Monogram, and further gold-tone hardware appears on the chain, strap attachments and closure. From a distance the soft, structured silhouette reads as a refined black leather shoulder bag; up close, the quilting, hardware and detachable components reveal the New Wave identity.

The adjustable fabric shoulder strap carries Louis Vuitton branding and gives the bag its sportier, crossbody configuration; it removes entirely when a cleaner leather-and-chain look is preferred. The detachable gold-tone chain serves alone for a dressier shoulder carry or combined with other components, and the round coin purse, one of the most recognizable features of M56461, repeats the black New Wave quilting and attaches to the strap or travels separately. The main compartment, with one interior flat pocket, holds a smartphone, slim wallet, keys, cards, earphones and compact cosmetics.

The appeal lies in the system: quilted leather gives the body depth, the wide strap changes the mood, the chain changes it again, and the coin purse adds another modular layer, letting a compact bag behave like a family of accessories.
