Pisapapeles Miss France M99408 de Louis Vuitton, baúl miniatura Courrier Monogram, regalo VIP, circa 2010

A full Louis Vuitton courrier trunk reduced to desk scale. The M99408 paperweight reproduces the Miss France trunk in Monogram with leather-toned borders, straps, side handles and brass-tone corners, and was made as a VIP gift rather than for ordinary retail. This example shows honest age with its miniature architecture complete.

The Piece

The M99408 is a miniature interpretation of Louis Vuitton's historic courrier trunk, created not as luggage but as a collectible decorative object within the Maison's VIP gifting tradition. Although it measures only around 15.5 cm wide, it carries the full vocabulary of a trunk: Monogram body panels, warm leather-colored borders, a miniature central strap and horizontal strengthening bands, rows of decorative studs, side carrying handles, reinforced corner fittings and brass-tone locking hardware. Photographed alone, it could pass for a vintage travelling trunk until its scale is revealed.

The model reproduces the Miss France trunk. Christie's describes the Miss France paperweight as a miniature modeled after the women's trunk associated with Miss France 1927, Roberte Cusey, and has catalogued Miss France paperweights together with other miniature trunks and snow globes as limited-edition gifts for VIP clients. Period examples carry Miss France markings and French tricolor references on the ends, details that set the model apart from generic Louis Vuitton miniature trunks.

Specialist Louis Vuitton trunk documentation places the Miss France miniature around 2010, while Christie's groups related paperweight editions within the 2010s: a modern collectible inspired by a much older tradition, not an antique trunk itself. The piece is sealed and does not open; its purpose is representation rather than storage. At around 720 g it has a satisfying density, so it can still do its original work on a desk, beside books, watches or other Louis Vuitton objects.

At this scale the Monogram becomes almost jewel-like, divided by tiny straps, bands and corners into small architectural panels that reward close inspection. Because these objects were distributed outside ordinary leather-goods retail, surviving examples have developed a collector market of their own, and Christie's has repeatedly included Louis Vuitton miniature trunk paperweights in dedicated fashion and collectibles sales.

Condition

Japonista grade AB · Very good, with light wear visible on close inspection.

• Rank AB: age- and use-related wear, with the silhouette, Monogram identity and decorative fittings intact; the piece still reads immediately as the Miss France trunk.
• Marks and dents; rubbing; peeling or surface wear; discoloration; dirt or surface soiling; raised leather fibers and wear to the leather areas.
• Tonal change to the metal, edge wear and leather aging read more strongly at miniature scale. Preservation rather than cosmetic restoration is recommended: avoid strong sunlight, humidity and aggressive metal polishing.
