A compact expression of Louis Vuitton's trunk-making tradition, the Coffret 8 Montres M47641 is a purpose-built hardsided case for a collection of fine watches. Classic Monogram canvas and brass hardware outside; inside, eight removable cushions above a concealed tray for small valuables.

The Piece

Louis Vuitton began as a maker of hardsided trunks in which every detail served protection, organization, transport and longevity, and over time extended that philosophy into specialized cases for jewelry, watches, instruments, bottles, writing implements and personal collections. Rather than adapting a bag to hold watches, the house built a miniature trunk around the proportions and handling needs of mechanical timepieces, combining protective architecture with the ceremony of a collector's display case.

The exterior is wrapped in brown Monogram coated canvas. Warm brass-tone corners, reinforced edging and riveted natural cowhide trim follow the perimeter, giving the case the visual language of the house's larger travel trunks, and the characteristic S-lock closure with key sits at the center as its focal point. Small enough for tabletop display, it still has considerable architectural presence: closed, a miniature travel trunk; open, a watch presentation cabinet.

The microfiber-lined interior is designed around eight individual watch positions, each on its own removable cushion, so a collection can be viewed at a glance while pieces are kept apart. Beneath the presentation level, a removable tray creates concealed space for spare straps, cufflinks, jewelry, small documents or other valuables. The case suits a safe or wardrobe as discreet storage, or a dressing room, study or watch room as display.
