The full kumadori face on a single square: Kansai Yamamoto’s red and blue kabuki actor printed edge to edge on a 48 cm cotton bandana, with the LV circle at one corner.
The Piece
In 2018 Nicolas Ghesquière invited Kansai Yamamoto, the designer behind David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust wardrobe, to reinterpret his kabuki faces and daruma dolls across the Cruise collection. The pieces were sold for a single season and have been collected ever since.
The bandana is printed on soft cotton with a red border, the actor’s painted face filling the square against green and violet, and a small LV roundel in one corner. It ties as a neckerchief, a hair wrap or a bag charm, and frames well.
Measures about 48 × 48 cm (19 × 19 in). Reference MP1948; made in Italy; with the Louis Vuitton box.
