Nishikigoi swim through cascading cherry blossoms, flowing streams and maple leaves across both legs of these Karakuri Tamashii (絡繰魂) jeans, the multicolor embroidery continuing onto the reverse. Floral wagara pocket fabric and a decorative waistband lining complete one of the label’s signature compositions.
The Piece
This pair brings together one of Japan’s most celebrated artistic combinations, the powerful nishikigoi (錦鯉) and the cherry blossom. Rich multicolor embroidery stretches across both legs and continues onto the reverse, wrapping naturally with the body’s silhouette as one continuous landscape of large embroidered carp, cascading sakura, flowing water currents, maple leaves, traditional floral arrangements and a decorative artisan seal motif. An indigo floral pocket lining and wagara rear yoke detailing complete the design.
Karakuri Tamashii is one of the most recognizable names in modern wagara (和柄) fashion, transforming traditional Japanese iconography into contemporary denim and apparel. Its collections frequently feature nishikigoi, dragons, tigers, samurai, hannya masks, Mt. Fuji, cherry blossoms and ukiyo-e inspired compositions, and its garments are prized for dense embroidery and artistic storytelling.
Inspired by the ancient legend of the carp that swims upstream to become a dragon, the koi stands for success, perseverance, determination, strength against adversity, achievement and good fortune. Cherry blossoms speak of renewal, spring, beauty, the fleeting nature of life and appreciation of each moment. Together they form a narrative of perseverance balanced by elegance and seasonal beauty.
