Junya Watanabe MAN x The North Face AW2017 Reconstructed N-3B Parka, Herringbone Tweed and Red, Faux Fur Hood, Size S

A reconstructed N-3B hooded parka from the AW2017 Junya Watanabe MAN and The North Face collaboration, part herringbone wool tweed, part red technical nylon, finished with a faux fur ruff and giant reversed logo hem.

The Piece

Junya Watanabe has spent two decades treating outdoor and workwear classics as raw material, and his long partnership with The North Face is the clearest expression of that method. The AW2017 season went further than most: pieces were cut and rebuilt from the bones of existing North Face designs, with technical nylon spliced against tailoring cloth so that the mountain and the city share a single garment.

This coat takes the military N-3B as its frame. The body is a black and white herringbone tweed of wool, alpaca and mohair, broken by panels of red North Face nylon across the yoke, shoulders and hem. The hem band carries a large North Face wordmark printed sideways, while the back yoke wears the full logo in black on red. Black knit storm cuffs and rib sections at the forearm, snap-flap patch pockets and a corduroy-lined hood edged in a full faux fur ruff complete the military reading.

Inside, the coat is lined in black mesh and red and black tartan flannel, with a zipped inner pocket and an orange North Face duffel-style size label marked XL/TG, an intentional quotation of the bag labels the line borrows from. The care label carries the product code WT-J107 and the AD2017 date, and the coat is made in Japan by Comme des Garçons.

Tagged S, it is cut with Junya's generous parka proportions, landing at mid-thigh with room for a heavy knit underneath. It suits a men's small to medium, and would wear well on a woman who likes an oversized military line.
